AIP-110 Donate to Roman Storm & Alexey Pertsev’s legal defense fund
Status: AIP-110 is up for a snapshot vote until May 23, 2024 at 22:08 UTC
This proposal seeks to approve a donation to the legal defense funds of Alexey Pertsev and Roman Storm, both developers involved with Tornado Cash. Arrested following the 2022 OFAC sanctions, the trials are significant for developers and the broader crypto industry and set a dangerous precedent to further prosecute third-party open-source software cases. With Pertsev’s first trial in March 2024 and Storm’s scheduled for September 2024, this proposal will add to the legal defense fund headed by Justice DAO and signals support and solidarity against government overreach.
To date, over 800 donations amounting to approximately 750 ETH have been made by notable individuals and organizations, including Edward Snowden, Vitalik Buterin, Gnosis, and others. Justice DAO ensures that all donations comply with US laws and are used solely for legal fees and costs related to their defense. The funds are managed transparently, with all legal expenses reviewed and approved before payment. The fundraising campaign, which screens donations for compliance risks, is conducted through Justice DAO’s website and juicebox.money, ensuring that all contributions are used appropriately and legally for the defense of Pertsev and Storm. Individuals can also contribute to the legal defense fund outside of this proposal by visiting Justice DAO’s website.
